Book List – culled from newspaper articles, book reviews, library and book and web store browsing and suggestions from other readers.
These were recommended in the Telegraph Herald as Best of the Decade. Only listing those from the list that I am interested in.
- Boom – Tom Brokaw
- The Reader – Bernhard Schlink (didn’t see the movie)
- The Storyteller’s Daughter – Saira Shah (also produced Beneath the Veil – also worth seeing)
- Reading Lolita in Tehran – Azar Nafisi
- The Life of Pi – Yann Martel (just happen to have that one – from the used book store)
- The Time Traveler’s Wife – Audrey Niffenegger (also didn’t see the movie – and I generally like to read the books first, and generally like the books better, if I do see both)
- Moloka’I – Alan Brennert
- The Story of Edgar Sawtelle – David Wroblewski
- Sing Them Home – Stephanie Kallos
- Animal, Vegetable, Miracle – Barbara Kingsolver
- Lost on Planet China - J. Maarten Troost
- An Irreverent Curiousity – David Farley
- Atonement – Ian McEwan (pretty sure I saw the movie if Kate Winslet was in it. Memory is not one of my better characteristics though.)

Queen of the Road by Doreen Orion. The premise is good – traveling around on a bus with your husband for a year — but so far I’m just OK with the book, not loving it at all, and not particularly finding the “Queen” a very engaging personality. Maybe she’ll grow on me, or maybe it will just be that kind of book.
